COMMUNITY SERVICE CENTER
Harbor House Community Service Center is a non-profit organization offering a diversity of quality services that conserve and enrich the quality of life on Mount Desert Island. Founded in 1965, Harbor House is the primary recreational, social and civic center for the towns of Southwest Harbor and Tremont. The strong community base at Harbor House has allowed many programs for all ages to thrive. Harbor House features a wide array of options, from the Children's Center for tots 18 months up to 5 years. Health & Fitness, and "The Underground" a free afterschool center for middle and high school ages on the island. These are just a few of the community programs offered at Harbor House.
Health & Fitness programs contribute to the well-being of the community by offering over forty classes, with something for everyone: yoga, cycling, hiking local mountains, Active Older Adults classes, as well as personal trainers for those looking to be in top shape!
Camp Harbor House encompasses Sport Camps, Scamper (ages 3-5) camp, and Explorer (grades k-4) camp. From Hoop camp, to Golf & Tennis camp, and new this year the Downeast Volleyball camp.
Harbor House caters to families and puts on programs for people of all ages. For those who are even more festive there is the Harbor House Flamingo Festival from July 10-13. This annual festival features a different theme each year, but the pink flamingo mascot never changes. The theme this year, Cirque du Flamingo, will include a carnival and a live mini circus with jugglers, clowns, and unicycles! All weekend long various events are held that celebrate the community's spirit: parade, craft fair, carnival and games. Wrapping up the weekend will be the local steel drum band, "Flash in the Pans" on Monday night and will be entertaining for all ages. So come for fun, festivities, and most importantly, feathers! Don't forget, all weekend, real men (and women) really do wear pink.
